i doubt he ran the diffuser, they would surely require two different chassis for that...

It's more of an add on really I've seen a couple of pictures of it and it really doesn't look like a proper double decker it's similar to their old one with a couple of bits added to the top and a little take away around crash structure and they are calling it their interim diffuser. so I expect they don't need two chassis for it.

Yeah. I'd guess Kovalainen was using the interim diffuser too.

you know .. I dont get it... from what I see with brawn that damn diffuser not really that important... brawn has straightline speed over and above the fact that the extra lil downforce allows them a lil faster round corners and stuff... what is the big deal about the diffuser anyway ?? If ferrari comes out and say they cant compete coz they dont have the diffuser ( so-called trick diffuser ) then I personally thing they darn stupid. Its clear that mcheaters and ferrari's problems is elsewhere.

 I reckon the front wing and sidepods are equally key, if not more so to Brawn's aero advantage. The Toyota probably has the most effective diffuser... or put it another way they'd have been hurt the most if they were banned.

exactly... and thats my point. we have nuts here ( that really appear to have their heads buried in the sand but promoting hamilton as far as they go ) refering to a trick diffuser device .. lol ...and to my knowledge that darn diffuser account for about only 5% (if not less ) of brawns advantage. not realising that its not really the reason brawn has all that advantage. I believe brawn could still be sandbagging ..... and if that the case - there a lot more brawn 1 2's to come. NO hamilton of mclaren. or ferrari for that matter.

so guys the fact the 3 teams with the double deck diffuser are always up the front time wise means little? these devices are bringing F1 back into the realm of ground effect id hardly belittle their effect!

Hi Bud ( capitalising your handle - that must mean something hey !! ) we always tend to disagree .... but I bet you by the time everybody has their one second a lap diffusers NOTHING will have changed.

yeah it makes me giggle

Not necessarily, by increasing the rear downforce on one package might yield greater efficiency form other areas of the car. Status quo will not stay the same.

dunno .. Logic tells me more downforce - more drag.... there a lot more to their performance.. secondly they clearly lighter than most of the opposition coz they not carrying the kers weight around. which means at some point of covering laps they will also be alot lighter than most out there. does that make sense ??

Indeed. Looking at the straight-line speed of the Force Indias is interesting. Just imagine if they had the downforce to actually complete a lap on-track, rather than on the run-offs. They could move up to points-paying positions pretty easily.

Also, look at the pace-increase from STR today. They suddenly weren't at the back of the grid with Piquet anymore. So it goes to show that, at the moment, there's a lot of time to be gained in a lot of areas.

Yeah, we saw signs of that in Malaysia when Button went for it after the other two pitted - i think he set a fastest lap 0.8s faster than anyone else in that time.

It was more a point of the Brawn being so much better in every department, even after all the others get their diffusers the only team that will be strongly challenging Brawn will be Red Bull i reckon...

There we go !!! .. Until somebody actually brings me proof that the diffusers accounts for so much of an advantage I will discount the hearsay..... OTOH I am wondering what brawn cud be hiding. is there such a possibility ???

If the diffusers mean little why then are all the teams going to remake their cars at a great cost based around double decker diffusers?

Because the whole package required to make the best use of the diffuser happens to be a very good one in other areas? I dunno. I find it hard to believe that the diffuser means everything after Heikki destroyed Rubens' in Melbourne (did you read Thursday's press conference? Hilarious comments from Heikki and Mark).

But! This is the wrong thread for that :hehe:

quite correct >>... I ask myself then if vettels car do not have all these so-called advantages then what are we missing. I still feel the diffuser could be part of it but definately NOT the answer.

The new regs initially reduced aero by 50%. The teams were able to claw back around 30%. It is widely accepted as fact that the diffuser may add up to 5-6% of downforce. However, that's only true if implemented properly with other aero adjustments. So, the 5% figure is probably a best case scenario and your mileage may vary depending on other design factors and constraints.
