From F1 Live:

Lewis Hamilton may not be able to win this year, but he will be able to add to his championship tally with McLaren in the future.

That is the belief of the reigning world champion's former mentor and boss Ron Dennis, who at Woking on Thursday announced his complete withdrawal from involvement in Formula One.

It has been rumoured that intractable friction between the 61-year-old and the Hamilton camp - notably Lewis' father-manager Anthony - contributed to Dennis' decision to step aside. But Dennis played down suggestions that Hamilton leaving the team before his current long-term contract expires was a possibility.

"Lewis has a contract and it's a long contract," he said.

Dennis also hinted that Hamilton cannot despair at his current situation, because two of the three McLarens he has raced in his career were capable of fighting for the championship.

"He's been very fortunate always to be in a competitive McLaren," said Dennis. "This is motor racing. Sometimes companies give you a competitive racing car, sometimes they don't."

Dennis acknowledged, however, that the current MP4-24 is unlikely to ever be a world-beater.

"People seem to be forgetting that we've got the numbers one and two on our cars," he said. "They might not be next year, but we will do everything we can to make it happen again in two years."

From F1 Live:

Lewis 'wasn't disappointed' to learn Ron was going
Friday 17th April 2009

Rumours of growing tension between Lewis Hamilton and Ron Dennis have apparently been vindicated after the World Champion revealed he "wasn't disappointed" to learn that Dennis had stepped down as McLaren CEO.

On Thursday former team boss and McLaren CEO Dennis announced that he would no longer play any role in McLaren's F1 project amidst rumours that his relationship with the Hamilton family had broken down.

When asked in the wake of Friday Practice for the Chinese GP for his reaction to the news of Dennis' exit from F1 after forty years in the sport, Hamilton replied: "I wasn't disappointed. I was surprised, but I had not heard about it. I was just as surprised as the rest of my team," Hamilton said.

"Ron has been a huge force and support in my life, and he still plays a key role in my life. Whether or not he is in the team or not, I think you guys have been writing about it for years that as soon as he gets to a certain stage he will move aside. I guess, I don't know why, he decided to do it now."

Asked if he had spoken to Dennis, Hamilton replied flatly: "No."

But aside from his brief comments on his former boss, Hamilton is opting to keep his own council with regards to other issues plaguing the team. "That's nothing to do with me," he said when asked about Whitmarsh's comments that McLaren need to foster a new relationship with the FIA. "I'm here to race and I have to focus on doing my job. What the team decides is up to them. You should speak to them."
