I realise that Brawn is one step ahead of the rest, but if they lose the diffuser they ultimately lose a piece of the puzzle. It won't stop them being competitive nor at the sharp end, but it will bring the other teams back into play.
Although I doubt the ruling will see the diffusers banned, I don't expect Brawn to have such an advantage come mid season.
Furthermore their gearbox seems slightly fragile at the moment.

Ah, but that depends on their development. I've seen people here express doubts...

I hear Brawn has a mighty leap in performance due for Spain. Bear in mind, the car they're running is the one they designed as fast as possible to take the Merc Powerplant. The Spain update is apparently tailor made for the Merc unit. Keep an eye on the sidepods.

What you're not including in that is that nearly every other team has a revised package planned for Spain in some form or another - BMW Sauber plan to introduce a heavily altered chassis, which would allow Kubica to use KERS. He's been pretty close to the diffuser-trio in terms of pace, so he could spring some surprises with KERS.

I think you'll find Brawn is already in front.

That is irrelevant, though. It's more than likely that any performance gains would be roughly equal across the board and would leave most of the teams at the same distance as they are currently. Some teams, perhaps FI and STR, would drop a little further back, but that would not be the case in general.

I think all teams will make the jump. Let's wait and see if the likes of Williams and Red Bull keep up with the pace of the manufacturer teams.
I hope so.

I'm interested to see how KERS plays out over the season. At the moment it looks disadvantageous, but none of the teams that were close to Brawn in the first place are using it, so it doesn't really show us anything. But what about when Toyota and Williams bring their KERS in? I think that could be the turning-point in the season.

So Diffuser banned tommorow, Yes, No?

Verdict?

I say no, having done my best to draw it and compare it with the regulations. Rory Byrne disagrees with me, however. And ultimately, he's far more qualified than I am. But at the same time, Patrick Head and Sam Michael reckon it's legal, as does Ross Brawn.

Toyota may never bring it in this year, if they can make such a jump without it. Williams will: too much money wasted otherwise.

The sarcasm's cute Bud, but pointless. The point is Brawn are ahead already, so if all the teams have huge leaps in performance, Brawn stays in front. That was my point.

That is irrelevant, though. It's more than likely that any performance gains would be roughly equal across the board and would leave most of the teams at the same distance as they are currently. Some teams, perhaps FI and STR, would drop a little further back, but that would not be the case in general.

I'm sorry, what? That was my point. So how was it irrelevant?
