Stewart to Brawn: don't sack Barrichello for Hamilton
Speculation ongoing ahead of McLaren hearing

Brawn GP should not sack Rubens Barrichello in favour of reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton, Sir Jackie Stewart has warned.

Ahead of McLaren's appearance on sporting fraud charges at the World Motor Sport Council later this month, it is speculated that a negative result could cause Hamilton to quit the British team.

It is becoming clear that - if found guilty on the disrepute charge - the most likely sanction for McLaren is suspension for multiple races, which could also trigger the 24-year-old and his furious father and manager Anthony's departure.

The only team linked with the potentially on-the-market Hamilton so far is the dominant Brawn, already powered by McLaren's engine partner Mercedes-Benz, who are annoyed about the scandal so soon after the 'spy-gate' saga of 2007.

With Jenson Button leading the World Championship, it is suggested amongst the speculation that the most likely Brawn driver to move over for Hamilton would be the veteran Rubens Barrichello.

But Stewart, who between 1997 and 1999 employed the Brazilian racer at his own F1 team, said: "Rubens is very experienced in the setting up of the car, Lewis is not."

"And Ross (Brawn) needs that knowledge right now because of the ban on in-season testing," he added.

Doesn't JS have other things to do than offer unsolicited advise to team bosses? He's not been too successful at running his own team, now has he?
Even if it's sound advise, must he open his trap to opine on everything?

Stewart to Brawn: don't sack Barrichello for Hamilton

I don't think Lewis is going to get be banned from any races more likely McLaren are going to take a huge hit to the wallet and the Constructors Title. But I would agree that Lewis is somewhat weak on the technical sides of things.

It never said anything about Hamilton getting a ban.

Ross would never sack Rubens for Lewis. For one thing, Lewis is too expensive and Brawn has no need to hire a hotshot, they already have Jenson Button. For another, Rubens has done nothing wrong, he's a loyal and valuable member of the team. Lewis on the other hand would cause nothing but drama, and he can do no better for the team than Jenson is already doing, so it would be a total waste of time, effort and money.

Lewis can stay at McLaren and he can damn well like it. He owes them more than 2 years of service.

Doesn't this suggest he may not be able to race with McLaren or am i getting the wrong end of the stick?

Yes - or only race ban for constructors points...

He can go to hell if he leaves the team especially to Brawn

That would be quite a disgusting thing to do, to be honest. But he and Hamilton Snr. have tried it before when things haven't been going their way, so I can't imagine this being any different.

If Hamilton wants to join Brawn he can't simply walk into Ross Brawn's office and demand a contract. Brawn is fully behind Button, and for the second seat I can't see Barrichello being dropped anytime soon. I think Ross has also got another eye on Bruno Senna's progress, he has always commented that Bruno was very impressive in the November test last year, and I can see him as a successor to Barrichello.

And then you've got the joker card in the F1 silly-season speculation game - Alonso.
