I would have fired them also.

What if it was the sporting Director's Idea in the first place.

Same thing for them aswell.

You'd fire both of them?

Yes I would, I run a tight ship and dishonesty is a huge no-no to me. If one is dishonest in any way they cannot be trusted imho.

If you were managing Mclaren what would have you done after the first Stewards inquiry of the Australian Race.
Take into consideration what we know as fact not Speculation:
The Team and #1 driver salvaged a fourth place finish.
Your driver did an interview after the race and told the press he was informed by his team to let Trulli Pass.
Your Driver and Sporting Director went into a Steward's meeting and denied* letting Trulli pass.
*No speculation into who started the lie.
You Know FIA has access to your radio transmissions and telemetry and In 4 days you have to go to another steward's meeting over the same situation.
What do you do?

Whitmarsh's biggest failure was not speaking to Hamilton and Ryan after their interview. That was major mismanagement on his part. Knowing what Hamilton and Ryan said would have at least saved some of the team's reputation.

Once the scandal came to light, I don't think I would have fired Ryan - that was over the top; although internal disciplinary action would have been taken. Hamilton would have received internal disciplinary action as well.

Ive said it many times, it beggars believe that they even considered pulling this stunt and thinking they could have got away with it. I also suspect there are some other team drivers and managers reflecting on this thinking "There but for the grace of god go I"

Aren't hypothetical questions just marvelous??

The truth is I'm actually Ron Dennis, and looking for a new Sporting Director. The fact that you would open a topic that says "Hypothetical Question" and take the time to post a sarcastic question and rolling your eyes, has now taken you out of consideration. :)

Here's another question, apologies in advance if its a dumb-arse one:-
If the 2008 Maclaren MP4-23 was so good with its set-up, aerodynamics and everything else that made it a competative car, why did McLaren just not replicate it for the 2009 season?
