From F1-Live.com:

According to Ralf Schumacher, the FIA should have dropped the 'lie-gate' scandal in the interests of Formula One.

The six-time Grand Prix winner already admitted last weekend that lying is not a rare commodity at the pinnacle of motor racing.

"You could say that this is inexcusable," 34-year-old Schumacher is quoted as saying by the German press, "but I say it should be excused."

The scandal has claimed the scalp of sacked McLaren Sporting Director Dave Ryan, triggered an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council, and thrown into doubt the futures at McLaren of Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh and reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton.

"I have to ask myself why the FIA draws this thing out even further," Schumacher continued. "It is unfortunate that at the moment such an exciting season is overshadowed by such things."

Also in the German press, experts and pundits are fearing the outcome of the FIA meeting on April 29.

Sporting sanctions may spark the already struggling Mercedes' withdrawal from the sport, while financial penalties would be disastrous amid the backdrop of the global recession.

Mercedes' racing boss Norbert Haug told the Cologne newspaper Express: "This situation is absolutely not positive for Mercedes.”

"I report directly to Daimler Chairman Dr Dieter Zetsche. If the situation should become intolerable, we will get together in Stuttgart and make a decision."

I agree with him...

The only reason such a big deal has been made of this is because McLaren is involved. If it were any other team, the disqualification from the race would have been as far as things went.

If in fact lying is rampant in F1 it has to stop, or be curbed as much as possible. The integrity of the whole sport is at stake. Therefore it needs to be pursued now and in the future no matter who is involved. Furthermore, no threat of pullout can used as leverage or once again the sport is not worth watching. Better that the whole thing is shut down never to return than to give into threats. And to suggest that somehow wanton lying is acceptable, well, Ralfie eventually you may start lying to yourself, and what a proud moment that will be. :nono:

The FIA aren't using this as a means to combat the undoubted corruption in Formula One. It's purely about politics and personal vendettas. Take the spy scandal in 2007. As with not telling the full story to the stewards, spying really is rampant in Formula One. There were three high-profile espionage cases: Toyota, McLaren and Renault. Out of those three, McLaren's dealing were probably the least serious, but they were hit with a gigantic punishment. Toyota and Renault were exonerated.

McLaren Fan, the FiA hates all the teams, McLaren and the FiA just get into more scrapes because they have a more watchful eye over McLaren - partly because of the Spygate, but also because McLaren are the most obvious dissenters.

McLaren is not the only team handed overly-punitive penalties to make examples of them, look at BAR and the trick fuel system that half the grid was running.

That's all small-fry stuff compared to what McLaren have been though. Have you any plausible excuses for Toyota and Renault's exoneration for their espionage?

One theoretical explanation could be that Flav is friends with Bernie, and at this time Bernie and Max got on well enough.

Also, I know that Renault were found to have McLaren data, but what of Toyota?

My explanation would be that if they threw another team out of the Championship, the sport would be brought into disrepute under their own rules.

Toyota were in possession of the plans for Ferrari's title-winning Formula One car and used them to their advantage. I can't recall the exact details, as it was years ago. In terms of Renault, they didn't just have McLaren information, but used that information to design parts of their car, most famously the so-called J-damper.

Do you remember his "I don't need Force India" comments? :hehe:

:hehe: What a turd sandwich. I also remember him saying 'i'm the 3rd best driver in F1' circa 2006/7, he obviously wasn't including half the grid there.
