Brawn regrets not taking Button to Ferrari
07 April 2009

Ross Brawn has admitted that he should have should have looked more at Jenson Button as a possible Ferrari driver over the last few years. Brawn, as former technical director to the Italian team, has watched Button compete in F1 since 2000 although admits that knowing the Englishman from the inside of a team is a different story to that of an onlooker.

Brawn, who has been impressed by the his driver's performances so far this year, admitted that Ferrari should have examined Button more carefully. "That might have been a mistake not to," Brawn said. "It's just so difficult to judge people, and Jenson is a pretty low-profile guy in many ways.

"He doesn't bang his own drum, and he gets on with things discreetly and quietly. It's a bit like his driving style, very smooth and very controlled, so I am very happy." Brawn, who worked with Michael Schumacher for all of the German's Ferrari years bar one, sees a different man in the car to that of last year. "He is working diligently with the engineers, and has been revitalized," he added.

Well we knew he was considering it after 2004. Jenson really impressed him that year.

That's possibly one of the (many) reasons he was eager to take on the Honda job, to work with Jenson and see if he was the real deal.

PS: Mission accomplished

didn't he say the other day he's glad Jenson didn't go to Ferrari because it wouldn't of been good for him?

In hindsight that's true. He wouldn't be at Brawn GP :D

I think drivers work well with certain teams. I think Jenson would of been swamped by the politics at Ferrari

Well he is a pretty quiet guy, but he doesn't seem like the type to get pushed around, I kind of see what you mean though.

I guess it depends who was in charge and who was in the other car.

It gives better drivers that Ferrari hadn't called.

For Example Lewis Hamilton,Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.
Button just has luck to have an old and bad team mate like Barrichello.

I don't get it either. I think Ross is just saying he thinks Jenson is very good.
