Did Hamilton have the # 2 on his car all ('08)last year ?

When did he have the # 22, in ' 07 ?

Hamilton had the number twenty two on his car in 2008, number two on his car in 2007.

They do. Sort of.

If they enter the sport, they get the second number assigned to the team. So for example, Fernando Alonso and Renault were the champions. Fernando therefore had the number one for his car, but he left Renault and took the number with him to McLaren. Hamilton got the number two as he was the team's second driver (not number two driver). Because they were the highest-scoring constructor the previous year, but had not retained the world champion, Renault got the numbers three and four. And so on.

Then, because McLaren were excluded from the 2007 constructors' championship, they ended the season with, effectively, no points Therefore they were last and were give numbers twenty two and twenty three.
