That exhaust protrusion in the link is minuscule

Any vertical cross section of bodywork normal to the car centre line situated in the volumes defined below must form one tangent continuous curve on its external surface

The exhaust protrusion still does seem to sit below the continuous curve...but at the same time it is protruding.

I say let them eat cake. Given the position the team was in just a few months ago, what they have achieved is quite something.

As far as I know, the team was notified of this at Australia, and asked to make a minor modification for Malaysia. They did so, so the matter is apparently concluded.

The Brawn team has certainly done an admirable job to get to where they are from the position they were in in early January. At the same time having a double decker diffuser (as with the Williams and Toyota cars) is in effect creating a Venturi tunnel underneath the base of the car and making the car basically hug the track surface. Isn't it by extension a modern version of the dangerous ground effects cars of the 80s? The big thing though is that being where the diffuser is on the cars, and given the aero development through the times, its much safer in cornering than those monsters ever were. I was always fascinated by ground effects, and would welcome to see safer cars as a fan once the level of understanding was significant. As a fan, I'd like to see these 3 teams keep their positions and others try to catch up with this state of the art, but if you respect the letter of the law, these are in essence ground effects cars which have been banned for 20 odd years.

I've checked some data, they were using grooveds for pit stop practices in Melbourne, that photo is from then.

In my own personal opinion I find there is something weird about the car and I find it strange how they have picked themselves up so quickly, it races and troubles the brain. But there will be problems along the way. Brawn is successful but not for long. We will have to wait until the diffuser thing is passed but until then my opinions stick. They are cheating, it may be a Claus in the rules but why would they look so deep into it? That is cheating to find a way of making their car superior to the rest. End of. When it is cleared I will be satisfied and will fully support them spite my team failing  But if illegal well you are as the British say. duck :wavey:
