Hi - I'm quite new to the forum.

I'm a little confused. I know Bern said that this year the driver with most wins would be WC, but have I just imagined reading somewhere that he offered to put his proposal on ice if all the teams were unhappy with his daft idea?

I thought the idea was shelved, but i can't see any news anywhere, so is it wins or points this year?

Any light thrown on this for me would be great.

Soz to be a bit dippy.

"FIA initially declared a change in deciding the World Driver's Championship, with the driver winning the most races to be declared as the champion.[3] However, this decision was later reversed following protests from Formula One Teams Association."

And rightly so, it's like he has nothing better to do anymore than come up with ridiculous ideas.

If we get a few more battles like Kubica and Vettel in Melbourne, Bernie might drop the idea. Especially if he guy that wins the championship has to win in Abu Dhabi to clinch it.

Thanks for the replies, SAS88 says it (the idea) has already been ditched.

Sorry, I was a little vague in my answer. Bernie still intends to push the idea through in 2010, which is why I said what I said. :)

Knowing Bernie, he'll be thinking of it for the next few years waiting for a chance to put it into use.

Ah, i see. Thanks all for the replies.

Yes, i think the idea is a good one from the American perspective. A bit like making the goals bigger as suggested by America when they hosted the World Cup.

Anyway, that was a stupid idea too.

The other proposal was to make the points gap between 1st & 2nd greater.

I prefer wins over points but I'm kinda 'left field' anyway :hehe: .

I think the medals was a good idea, quick quick keep reading before you try and kill me, I think a it would work as 1 Win would be equal to 2nd, and a 2nd is worth 2 3rds and so on.

to take it to it's extreme 16 forth places will be equal to 1 win

AH ha, I have worked it out. :-)

Right then (the whole 1/4 pts etc was a bit hard to work out, and strangly enough it turned out that the easiest way to make the points understandable was to go back to the Binary system (if I rattle on about it long enough it people will like it lol)

Right then points are awarded as so

1 - 128pts
2 - 64pts
3 - 32pts
4 - 16pts
5 - 8pts
6 - 4pts
7 - 2pts
8 - 1pts

so the championship would work out to be

Button 256
Heidfeld 96
Barrichello 72
Glock 48
Trulli 16
Alonso 8
Roseberg 5
Webber 4
Hamilton 2
Bourdais 1

Why try to fix something that isn't broken, the system has worked perfectly well and that numpty who resembles R2D2 should keep his beak out. The win over points is a non starter.

Agreed. But the win should be a bigger gap over 2rd maybe?
