I don't read anyone here excusing Hamilton for letting himself be put in that position. We're just stating what seems to be what happened.

I agree with that, actually. They are protecting Hamilton up to a point, but...Anyone that works in a company knows that blame rises up to management. Your subordinate lied? It's your fault, buddy. I'm not saying I agree with this, but that's how it works.

Nah ., I dont fall for that one... these guys are high profile people and they know it. they take a piss in a alley chances are it will be in the news - they know that too. with the odds against you in that regard you dont try s*** like this. I now loathe mclaren even more for letting Davey take the fall for hamilton's crap in this case. i never liked him in gp2 - i dont like him in F1 - I like the s o b even less now.

DC has come out and said he's been in a simlar situation, and he might of done the same thing.

I've been in that situation many times and you trust your team - you trust the integrity and safety of the car, so why would you not trust them when they give you a guideline on what to say?

Think I picked that up in earlier posts but never expected you to be so outspoken about it. - but you right - he is a talented driver. I'll give him that but also all I will ever give him. It doesn't take a genius to realize Hamilton was told to lie. Before he had any coaching from his team he was interviewed and told the truth. His story didn't change until someone from Mclaren told him he had to go see the stewards, at which time he was told what to say to the stewards by his team. It doesn't make his lies any better, but to say it was all Hamilton's fault is just not rational.

Awful news. Ryan has had a wonderful career and was a part of McLaren, so it's tragic to see it end like this. It's a shame Hamilton has got off much more lightly. The next thing that needs to happen is for Whitmarsh to either be sacked or demoted ( ) (the latter probably being the better choice at this stage) whenever a suitable candidate for Team Principle is found.

It is awful news. He was a loyal member of McLaren for many years and doesnt deserve this for one error of judgement.I imagine there is more than meets the eye to his "parting company".
If whitmarsh is to be sacked there is no successor, he has been groomed for this role for 20 years. That to me is also a tradgedy. I like that guy. If he goes, an outsider has to be found unless Ron steps back in.
Lewis "got off more lightly" maybe. If he was told to lie by a senior employee then I dont think he's got of lightly. The alternative is that Lewis asked Ryan to lie. Possible. Dissappointing if so. I don think that hapened. If it did, Ryan should have said categorically "NO!"

Racechick, for once you are right I am pretty sure Ryan got a nice severe package for his "retirement", he's been loyal to McLaren for years and like you said, it was just error of judgement, but the judgement was proved that he intended to lie and its costly for him and the team. Hopefully, its just a small fine and back to racing.
