Daimler own 40% of the Mclaren Group, so they have financial clout for sure.

With this share im guessing they offer huge techinical input, not just in the F1 project, but Mclaren's Automobiles, electronic company etc etc.

They might just be unhappy with how the Macca team is led recently. They pour in money and don't fully control McLaren... If it wasn't for the financial downturn I'd simply say they want to buy McLaren. BMW did it with Sauber, didn't they?

Mercedes have no intention of buying Mclaren outright at the moment.

Mercedes should buy 10.5% more shares and become the majority shareholder. Then sack the top management (Whitmarsh and co.) and make Norbert Haug team boss.

They own 40% of McLaren but Force India and Brawn are just customers though I believe there is now quite a strong relationship between McLaren Mercedes and Force India like they have sent a couple of McLaren guys to help them get their act together also they have far more than a engine contract they have a engine, gearbox, KERS, electrics and hydraulics deal.
