Maybe I should have been more clear, these "successes" I'm talking about of Jenson are in reference to this season. He has won two races this season, but not convincingly, it has been amidst chaos and confusion for the other drivers with all kinds of technical issues.
Quoting you: "The drivers in the quick cars do well, that's the point of racing. When a team is doing a poor job, it doesn't matter who they are, their drivers won't do well." - Isn't that exactly what has happened this season? Button's success, like I said before, for these two wins, has been because of bad luck for the other drivers. Could he have won still if Ferrari didn't screw up, and the KERS systems were all in order, and no one was getting cardiac arrests over system designs in other cars? Maybe, but we won't know.
You seem to be brushing aside all these major issues, the fact is, they are real, and this time it doesn't involve one team, but several, over a new development that has recently been introduced. It's a factor that needs to be considered.
But whatever, we don't seem to be getting anywhere with this.

I am saying that by that same logic, Jenson would have been fighting against Kimi and Hamilton had it not been for HONDA's misfortune in the last two seasons, what part of that do you not understand? Your argument makes no sense. Yes, things are different this year, that doesn't change the fact that Ferrari and McLaren's problems are the result of them not doing good jobs. Even if they had done, Brawn still would have done, which would mean Jenson would still be fighting at the front. You can't devalue a performance by saying "if X team was good, you wouldn't be so far ahead". Why? Because it's bleeding obvious. That's always the case.

multiple times doesn't strengthen your argument, much to your dismay.
Jenson has performed not as well as he could have, in the 2000 season he was the second place driver to his team-mate, fine that was his starting season, and 8th was pretty good. Let's take a look at 2001, he came in at 17th whilst team mate Fisichella was placed at 11th. 2002, 7th position, whilst Trulli team mate comes in at 8th (getthing somewhat better). 2003, 9th position whilst Villeneuve at 16, (probably a reflection of Button's skill now that he has started to perform well with a problematic car). 2004, a whopping 3rd position!! Undoubtedly well done by him. 2005 -> back to 9th, hmm...2006 -> 6th ahead of Barrichello. Maintained positions even over the BMW, which indicates that the car was doing a lot better than your assertions of a "bad package" over the years.
2007 onwards is not even worth mentioning.
The fact is, that at times he has placed well over some of the BMW's and McLarens at times, he certainly has had his opportunities and seized some of them. It's not really much of a chart to gloat over. Mansell was right, I think Mansell's comments hold more water than yours, what was that about his arm-chair analytics comments in an earlier thread???
And what do you suppose you're doing? "Champion-elect" 2 race win banner, and with this stark new revelation of a 2 race win at the start of the season, it's supposedly the evidence against his bad-runs due to poor car performances in earlier years. Everyone has had problems agreed, but this new system that people are toe-stubbing over I think has a huge part to play. Mate, go apply for race commentary or become some kind of analytic if you want to wash over other people's opinions (including high-profile racing figures) and bring your naivety to light.
I'm glad that Button and Barrichello has this opportunity, I really am, more so Barrichello, but this a time when they have been extremely fortunate over the other drivers. When the big drivers are experiencing great difficulty and placing heavily at the middle and back order, it's obvious there's a problem, either they all collectively decided to perform poorly or something else was up. It was not Jenson's magic touch at the wheel.
