The reality is, Bernie has only managed to get more of the public watching half an F1 race.

Thats not an achievement. He just ruined what was shaping up to be a great race. He's also a dolt because clearly his medal system is bull. Kubica went flat out for the victory in Melbourne. By Bernie's logic Kubica would've settled for 3rd. But clearly he didn't. Why, because drivers never settle for 2nd, never. They're either too slow, or lying. This is just a stupid idea Bernie has got wedged between his two remaining brain cells.

Bernie can take no credit in the great season were having right now. In fact, he almost ruined it. When people are in positions of power for too long they get carried away, greedy, deluded and stubborn. Its more than time Bernie stepped down.

Bernie is just an idiot that he's got everyone talking F1, excited about F1, and watching F1. Just look at how many people are on this forum compared to 2007, 2008.

Feelings yesterday after race where not too great. Most people annoyed about the whole thing, normal 3pm race start would have given enough time to race, and in case of heavy rain the start could be postponed. Those showers usually don't last forever.

Otherwise fun though, and like always after I've been at GP, I have to watch the replays next morning to find out what happened. Something to do with not having the kangaroo tv set, and those just keep walking friends I made. I don't buy any sponsored products, but when it's offered for free I cannot say no.

From autosport.com:

Ecclestone stands by late start time

By Jonathan Noble Monday, April 6th 2009, 07:11 GMT

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone sees no reason to abandon the move to twilight races, despite seeing the Malaysian Grand Prix cut short because of a downpour.

Ecclestone had insisted that the Sepang race should start at 5pm this year, because it would help boost television audience figures back in Europe.

However, as expected, the race was marred by the evening rain showers common to the region - and in the end had to be called off when conditions made it too dangerous to continue.

Despite the chaos of the race, Ecclestone has made it clear that he still thinks the start time is correct. Speaking to AUTOSPORT about whether he had regrets about starting the race at 5pm, Ecclestone said: "No. I just have regrets about the rain.

"I don't see anything wrong with the start time, we just didn't know about the rain. If we had started at 2pm then it would have rained as well."

Despite Ecclestone's stance about the start time, Malaysian GP organisers have said they want to speak to F1's commercial chiefs to discuss the situation.

Sepang International Circuit chairman Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir told the New Straits Times that he was looking into the matter.

"We will review it," he said. "As to exactly what time it will start next year, we are not sure. But we are reviewing the timing for next year's race."

F1 teams themselves have had a mixed response to the decision to move the Malaysian race start time back to 5pm.

BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen said: "We should not have a twilight race. Either we have a race without lighting, then it should finish earlier, or we have a night race and you can go on when you want. Here it was on the edge.

"It would have been on the edge in dry conditions and I have heard before that they are discussing to pull it forward again for next year.

"It [an abandoned race] is definitely not what we want to see, but that is not depending on the time of the day. We had that at Sao Paulo at 2pm too. What we have to understand is that here, generally in Malaysia, rain probability raises in the afternoon."

But Renault boss Flavio Briatore told AUTOSPORT: "This was about the weather. You can control the start time but you cannot control the weather.

"We were unlucky because yesterday the storm was at the same time, and today as well. I believe if it wasn't for the weather, then the timing was great for Europe. Sure, the people watching the racing had fun."

Wow. Lots of posts on this subject, rightly so i think.

There's an old saying that i think is quite applicable in this case. 'If it's not broke, don't fix it.'

The only reason to change the start time was to please European TV viewers. Agreed? No other reason?

This is 2009, a lot of people have recording devices, be it hard disk, dvd or tape, etc.

I used to like getting-up early if i wanted to see it live. (Japan, Australia, etc) If i wanted to sleep i would either record it or catch the full replay later the same day.

WHERE'S THE PROBLEM? As it was quali never started until 10am, and i had to take my daughter to a dance class, so missed it. DOH!

STOP MESSING ABOUT AND JUST KEEP THINGS AS THEY WERE.

It has nothing to do with who's watching the race at 4AM, The majority of hardcore fans will record it anyway. The problem is you can't sell TV advertising time at 4AM for the same price you can sell it for at noon on a Sunday. Since when does Bernie care what's convenient to F1 fans or the Teams. Bernie only cares about how much more money he can make, If he holds races at later times it sweetens the deal for European Television, therefore he can sell the TV rights for more money. He doesn't give a crap about a better race or even finishing the race the TV rights are already sold before the season even starts.

Ratings in Europe are up for the Malaysia GP, stupid Bernie

T.V ratings where up, right along with dissapointed Fans, Drivers, and Teams. It's obvious nobody wants to finish a race this way, and obvious that Bernie couldn't care less what anyone else thinks as long as he makes more money...
Great for Bernie bad for F1 racing...

Obviously got every body talking about it, from blogs to around water coolers, even the US media is talking about the wild event that took place in Malaysia. I know for a fact, everyone is looking forward to China GP, no one will stop watching. Marketing 101- there's no such thing as bad publicity, publicity is publicity. Stupid Bernie
