Stewards reject BMW Sauber's protest

By Jonathan Noble Saturday, April 4th 2009, 13:44 GMT

BMW Sauber's protest against the legality of the diffuser designs on the Brawn GP, Toyota and Williams cars has been rejected, meaning the matter will now almost certainly join the FIA International Court of Appeal hearing on April 14.

The race stewards at the Malaysian Grand Prix received a protest from BMW Sauber after qualifying on Saturday against the controversial double-decker diffuser designs used by its three rival teams.

It follows similar protests from Renault, Red Bull Racing and Ferrari at the Australian GP, which were also rejected.

BMW Sauber has appealed that decision, however, which ensures that the results of the Malaysian GP will now be taken into account at the ICA hearing later this month.

More to follow.

I'd just like to pick up on somethings there, on the FIA site that we're clearly not told. Lewis was fined twice for speeding on the pit lane. Timo and Nick were also fined, and Kubica was reprimanded for ignoring a yellow flag. Interesting, so either this stuff happens a lot and is ignored by sites and the press, or we just never hear of it.

Nice to see that Barrichello was heavier than Button. :)

Also, it's good that the stewards have thrown out the protest. Surely the appeal will also go the same way after the diffusers now having been declared legal on yet another occasion?

I'd say so... but it is the FIA.

It's ignored a lot because it happens at every event. At one point last year I actually counted up the penalties and worked out who was the biggest offender, but I can't remember who ended up earning that particular honour :P

Hopefully if the hearing votes in favour of Williams, Brawn and Toyota this row will diffuse itself...

I'll get me coat. ;)

:hehe:

I think that the podium will end up either the same as the top three on the grid, or else Rosberg replacing one of the Toyotas. Unless it rains, in which case I don't want to predict, but would hope for a great drive through the pack from Rubens. :)

Edit: Actually, I'll be expecting a great drive through the pack for Rubens anyway, but those Toyotas might just be too quick. Although they are going to be pitting a fair bit earlier than him... :D

If Nico can get a good start I'm sure he might be able to stay ahead of one or both of the Toyotas. I think a lot will also depend on if Trulli actually manages to drive as good as he qualifies.

Hmmm so Nico wasn't hinting the car was heavy... is he picking up Lewis' misleading tactics? :P

Still, he outqualified Webber on the same fuel and just got pipped by Glock. I think I agree with James Allen on the Toyota, Williams and Red Bull being all on the same pace, it's just all down to tactics, luck and the driver at the end of the day.

The rain it never comes...

That's what happens when you talk about the chances of rain too much. :P

 I'm cursed :(

Ah nah it's not you, it's when everybody talks about the rain so much the rain decides to sneak off because its cover was broken by us making such a fuss of it. :hehe:

Ok well lets hope its a scrotcher tomorrow evening in Malaysia... Not a cloud in the sky.

Scrotcher or scorcher??? :yikes: I guess SV would have an unfair advantage with the ice cubes down there? :hehe:
