if its a wet race what are the odds on it finishing. why not start it earlier

F1 drivers are touted as the best in the world so why should they NOT race in the rain??

It's not the rain that would be the issue, but the amount of light. Whilst in semi-decent (even cloudy) conditions there would be enough to last the whole race, if it was to rain heavily then it could become too dark to race before the race is completed.

I agree, F1 cars don't have lights unlike Touring Cars, Sportscars, Le Mans Series cars. Drivers have to use what little light they have when the rain comes down. Once again we can all blame Bernie for his neurotic twilight race idea, if he's the one after a spectacle he'll get a disaster at this rate.

At least he'll be there in Malaysia for the embarrassment

I'm hoping things are cleaner. Please keep racing drivers in black cars and yellow helmets away please. Otherwise we might have an accident and they both might lie this season is already driving me up the wall with the lies and controversy. Upsetting at most that things are getting so bitchy, it's like 12 girls at school slapping each other. I think F.India are the only clean team out there. Pace needs to be picked up and drivers need to think more and do our countries well. Britain is looking half good with jenny and half crap with Hammy? A Liar & a Winner? Wow.... a lot to go with. I guess this saddens me? This sport is not what it used to be, in which it strikes me like a wall I used to cherish the small moments on this track that made it awesome? But I’m ashamed to say that I would not be surprised if brawn win and teams bitch because of the success and make a case of it? Rules need to be set with no clauses in which can be slipped thru. Specifications need to be brought down to the T so there are no controversies!! It’s saddening and stressful. I only hope the sport picks up by round 3!

Wet race equals high chance of a red flag.

Yep and Half points awards. I can't see it running the distance in that weather!

I don't think it's half points unless they make it past 25% of the race, is it? I know that it's full points after 75% race-distance.

The 1991 Australian GP only lasted something like 16 of the 81 laps and half points were award. However you may be right, they may have amended the rules by now.

It's very possible that I'm wrong, actually. It's been so long since I read that part of the regulations.

Now, i'm not sure on this either to be honest, cause i'm sure the Brazilian GP in 2003 only reached about 50 of 71 laps, which isn't quite 75%...

I think they just use it for estimation.
Remember Canada 97 with Panis's crash, there were a few questions as to whether the result would count.

Hmm, yeah i remember the crash and the race being stopped after a couple of laps behind the safety car... some debate over whether the safety car period counted or something? It was so long ago.

OT that accident sucked, Panis could have won races that year.

1997 was such a class race. Panis was never the same again. But who could forget his charge in Catalunya - bloody Irvine holding him up

EwmanM is pretty much right.

If a race is suspended under Article 41, and cannot be resumed, no points will be awarded if the leader has completed less than two laps, half points will be awarded if the leader has completed more than two laps but less than 75% of the original race distance and full points will be awarded if the leader has completed more than 75% of the original race distance.

You hit the nail right on the head. The fact that the track is wet is actually an advantage as steering feel is far more pronounced. However the heated humid conditions turn the entire cockpit into a pressure cooker. Everything is covered in water vapor. Your shoes slip on the pedals, your visor fogs constantly, and your engine responds erratically depending on which part of the track your on and what kind of spray you're exposed to. Wet is good. Hot and wet is hell.
