An appeal hearing scheduled for next week over the McLaren-Ferrari spying saga has been withdrawn.

According to the FIA, new evidence has been found which relates to the espionage saga which has overshadowed Formula 1 for much of the 2007 season. At the original hearing, McLaren escaped without penalty despite being found guilty of breaking the international sporting code. Ferrari appealed and an appeal date was set for September 13th. However, in light of the new evidence, the FIA have said that this date will now be set for a new hearing instead of an appeal. Representatives of McLaren who could face exclusion from the current championship have been invited to attend the meeting.

It is, as yet, unclear as to what the new evidence is. When questioned, an FIA spokesperson said they were “not in a position to make any comment at this stage.”
