Sam Michael, WilliamsF1 Technical Director, was fined after being late for an official FIA press conference on Friday. Michael arrived some 7 minutes late, picking up a fine of €5000 Euros.
While Michael, along with other senior members of the pitlane questioned the punishment, the FIA cited their warning on Thursday after Toyota’s Ralf Schumacher and William’s Alexander Wurz arrived late for the pre-event press conference in Canada.
“The stewards have received a report from FIA Formula One Press Delegate that, once again, drivers have arrived late for a Press Conference,” said an FIA spokesperson. “The most recent tardy miscreants are Ralf Schumacher and Alexander Wurz, each of whom arrived late for this morning’s 11:00 am Press Conference. Competitors are reminded of the requirements of 2007 Formula One Sporting Regulations Article 35.1 but doubtless do not need reminding that to arrive late is discourteous not only to the FIA Formula One Press Delegate but also to all the Journalists attending the Press Conference.”
