Lewis back on track at Jerez

World champion Lewis Hamilton returned to the cockpit today, testing his new McLaren MP4-24 at the Jerez circuit in southern Spain. The Stevenage-born driver looked fit and refreshed as he went from his motorhome to the pits, even posing for pictures with fans.

Hamilton s new car appeared to be sporting a 2008-spec rear-wing arrangement, however. Lewis managed a best lap of 1.20.737 for the first stint of 25 laps in the car, which has already been shaken down by team test driver Pedro de la Rosa and race driver Heikki Kovalainen,

Hamilton will be in Jerez all day today and tomorrow, preparing for the defence of his crown in the upcoming season.
