Italian tyre maker Pirelli have been announced as the sole tyre supplier for the F1 field for next season.
The FIA announcement came yesterday evening, ending months of conjecture and over which company would get the deal.
The FIA statement reads:
“Pirelli has been selected as the single tyre supplier for the FIA Formula One World Championship for a period of three years, commencing in 2011. The sole supplier will undertake to strictly respect the sporting and technical regulations implemented by the FIA.”
The choice of Pirelli could result in F1 wheels becoming bigger, as the Italian company have been keen to introduce 18-inch wheel rims to make the sport more road-relevant.
They last competed in the sport in 1991.
