Ferrari not planning on signing Alonso

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has said that the team are not planning to bring Fernando Alonso to Ferrari as a partner for Kimi Raikkonen.

A few months ago, Alonso gave hints that he would like to drive for Ferrari although he has since denied that he has an escape clause in his current Renault contract that would allow him to leave the team if they struggle during the season although his contract his very flexible.

With a poor start to the season, there was speculation that Raikkonen s current partner at Ferrari, Felipe Massa, may not be given a race-seat next season, although a win in Bahrain has tempered most of the rumours surrounding the Brazilian s future.

Talking to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, di Montezemolo explained, “To line up a Raikkonen Alonso double act would mean wanting to damage yourself. I want two equal drivers that can work together.”
