Williams are hoping to base a test team on the eastern Spanish coast near Valencia. It has been reported that the team have almost reached an agreement with the local authorities to allow them to base a test team in the area in exchange for giving young Spanish racing drivers a chance to test William s Formula 1 cars.
The first young driver hotly tipped to test one of the team s cars is Dani Clos, a 19 year old who raced in 2007 s F3 Euroseries and who has recently spend some time in the team s pit area during the Barcelona test.
As yet, it is believed that an exact location for the test base has not been determined. The team are hoping to build the base in Spain to save money on transfers between Spain and the UK during test sessions. Williams had also explored whether they could build a test base at the actual Circuit de Catalunya however this plan was scrapped.
