Toyota set to part with Trulli

Jarno Trulli’s F1 future was thrown into doubt today after it emerged that current employers, Toyota, may not re-sign him for next season.

In an interview with Germany’s SID news agency, John Howett admitted that although the team was likely to retain Timo Glock, such arrangements had not been made to keep Trulli for 2010.

“We have an option on Timo,” the Toyota Team Principal was quoted as saying. “It is very probable that we will take it up, however we will separate with Jarno Trulli.”

“We have spoken with him, however up to now we have reached no agreement.”

Howett explained that the Japanese manufacturer had been impressed with Glock’s race performances so far this season, and would try to help him improve in qualifying.

The move will see Trulli, currently Toyota’s top scorer, without a drive for 2010 and with the likes of Nico Rosberg and Robert Kubica on the market, the possibilities of finding another competitive drive will be limited for the likeable Italian.
