Senna’s father in court

The father of the late triple Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna da Silva has been handed a fine for keeping workers in inhumane conditions.

Milton da Silva is a wealthy landowner and businessman and has been accused of keeping 82 of his employees who work on his property in Bahia, Brazil, in appalling living conditions. Da Silva has denied the charges however he was accepted that he did not adhere to all safety standards required. It is understood that the charges were filed after labour inspectors checked Da Silva s 6,000 hectare property about a year ago.

A Brazilian magistrate said that some of Da Silva s workers rights had been violated and so the magistrate chose to punish Da Silva with a fine of around the equivalent of 280,000 Euros.
