Michael Schumacher joins MercedesMercedes have confirmed that Formula One legend Michael Schumacher will be racing for them in 2010. The German driver, who has won seven F1 world championships, is reported to have signed a three year deal with the team.

Schumacher, who turns 41 next month, retired from F1 in 2006. He continued to be associated with Formula One through his work with Ferrari whilst he continued to race in karting and on motorbikes. Last season, Schumacher was scheduled to make a comeback to the sport after Ferrari driver Massa was injured however a neck injury from a motorcycle crash earlier in the year scuppered these plans.

Schumacher had been strongly linked with the Mercedes team after they took over Brawn GP earlier in the year. Schumacher’s neck was then given the all-clear by doctors enabling him to sign a deal with the team.

The new deal with Mercedes takes Schumacher back to his roots – Schumacher drove for Mercedes-Benz as part of their junior programme.

Mercedes will drive with an all-German driver next season with Nico Rosberg already confirmed in the second race seat.
