Schumacher hopes to swap team numbers with Rosberg

Michael Schumacher has asked if he can switch numbers will his team-mate Nico Rosberg for the 2010 season.

Rosberg, who was the first driver to be signed for Mercedes GP, was assigned the number three. As Schumacher was signed after Rosberg, he was assigned the number four.

However Schumacher is hoping to race with an odd number on the nose of his car because he believes it is lucky – all of his seven F1 world championships have been won when he has raced under an odd number: once with three and five, and five times with the number one.

No cars with racing under number four have ever won a title – and in fact in the past decade, the number four car has only recorded seven race wins.

Should Rosberg agree to swap numbers with Schumacher, the FIA will then have to approve the change before Schumacher is permitted to drive under the number three.
