Official Sauber reserve driver Esteban Gutierrez was disappointed not to be drafted in for the Canadian Grand Prix after Sergio Perez felt he wasn’t well enough to take part. Instead, Pedro de la Rosa was given the drive.
Sauber have explained their decision stating that they chose not to give the drive to Gutierrez as they wanted to ease him into F1 rather than dropping him in at the deep end straight into a race.
“We have a responsibility to Gutierrez,” team boss Peter Sauber told [em]Speed Week[/em]. “It is important to bring him slowly into Formula 1.”
