There are many rumours in the paddock that Santander who currently sponsor McLaren are planning to sponsor a new team when their current contract runs out at the end of the 2009 F1 season. Current speculation is that Fernando Alonso is looking to move to Ferrari for next season, with Santander keen to follow the Spanish driver.
Although there has been no official word from either Ferrari, McLaren or Santander over the matter, it is believed that the Spanish sponsors have already informed McLaren they are not planning on extending their current contract. They are also thought to be keen on partnering a team with Fernando Alonso again.
According to Spanish newspaper ABC, “Santander has already informed the team [McLaren] and Ron Dennis and has a deal with the Italians from 2010.â€
