Renault: We will fight to keep Kubica

Renault team boss Eric Boullier says that he is keen to hold on to his star driver Robert Kubica and will fend off any attempts to lure him away.

According to reports in Valencia, the Polish driver’s services are sought after by Mercedes Benz. However, although this speculation appears to be wide of the mark Kubica is yet to commit to the Enstone-based team for another season.

Subsequently, Boullier is keen to finalise a deal as quickly as possible.

“We definitely want him and we have spoken – and it is up to us to show that we have the ambition and the means to be ambitious,” the Frenchman told Autosport.

“If we do that, then I am sure he will stay. If he doesn’t want to stay then he will leave, it is as simple as that.”

Kubica has been in terrific form this season, scoring 83 points and finishing in the points of all but one Grands Prix. As a result, Boullier admits that the Polish driver’s good form has made him attractive to other teams.

“Robert is one of the very highly ranked drivers but, because his contract is supposed to end this year, he has become attractive. It’s normal,” he said.
