Raikkonen will do better this year, says Domenicali

Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali has today given his backing to Finnish star Kimi Raikkonen. Raikkonen suffered a difficult 2008 in which his motivation was frequently questioned, but Domenicali has faith in the 2007 world champion, and went further to distance his team from rumours about their approach to Fernando Alonso.

“Kimi wants to show, as president (Luca di) Montezemolo joked, that he’s back to being his normal self and not his twin,” Domenicali is quoted as saying by the BBC.

“He can’t wait to get in the car.

Raikkonen s problems in 2008 are thought to stem from an inability to work heat into the front tyres immediately, leading to below-par qualifying times and lacklustre starts to grands prix. His reputation took something of a battering as he was obliged to play support act to Felipe Massa in the last few races.

But Imola-born Domenicali stressed that neither of his drivers positions were under threat.

“Our drivers have contracts signed,” added the Italian. “Fernando is a great driver but we are more than happy with ours.”
