Prodrive engine deal secured in principle

According to David Richards, chairman and boss of Prodrive, an engine deal has been secured in ‘principle’ for his new F1 team for the 2008 season.

There is no confirmation as yet as to which manufacturer Prodrive will use for their engines although many believe that the new team have opted for an engine and chassis from McLaren-Mercedes.

Richards, who is currently at Le Mans running the Aston Martin effort, said, “We have an agreement in principle for an engine deal but we are not going to announce anything yet.” The official statement is due to come at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in July.

Although they will be a new team to the Formula 1 paddock, Richards has high hopes, expecting to finish in the top half of the grid. “We have to be realistic,” Richards explained. “There are some exceptional teams who have been in the sport for a long time. But with the route we are going to take and with the relationship we will have with our partner team, I am expecting us to be in the top half of the grid.”
