Sebastian Vettel will take a five place grid penalty in Monaco after changing his gearbox, the FIA have confirmed.
Toro Rosso are running their new STR3 car for the first time this weekend and this means accomodating a new gearbox.
Under this year’s regulations the same gearbox must be used for four races and Vettel had used his for one, the Turkish Grand Prix.
“Monte Carlo is the last place you want a punishment like that,” Toro Rosso team co-owner Gerhard Berger lamented to the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport.
Vettel’s team-mate Sebastien Bourdais escapes a similar penalty because he didn’t finish the Turkish Grand Prix.
