Niki Lauda, three-time Formula One World Champion, has just got married. According to German newspaper Bild, Lauda married 29 year old Birgit Wetzinger in a civil ceremony which lasted just seven minutes.
After his life in F1, Lauda founded and ran two airlines amongst other ventures. He is said to have met Wetzinger whilst she was working for one of his airlines as an air hostess. Three years ago, she is also reported to have donated a kidney to the 59-year old Austrian.
When asked about the wedding, Lauda said little more than to confirm that it had taken place, and that he owed his life to Wetzinger.
“It s true,†he confirmed. “I try to keep my private life to myself so I don t want to say any more about it. Without her [Wetzinger], I would not be alive today.â€
