Neck injury could still prevent Schumacher return

Michael Schumacher’s return to Formula One was thrown into jeopardy today when it emerged that the seven-time World Champion is continuing to suffer from a lingering neck injury.

Question marks still remain over the condition of Schumacher’s neck, an injury sustained at the beginning of the year when the German fell off a Superbike.

Despite managing nearly 70 laps during his test of the F2007 at Mugello, last week, Schumacher still complained about his neck, revealing that it “pinched” afterwards.

Now, concerns over Schumacher’s fitness have been raised even further after his spokeswoman, Sabine Kehm, told German television ZDF that the injury could prevent his return to the sport in place of the injured Felipe Massa.

“It is not quite certain yet that his neck will hold and the comeback can be started,” adding that whether Schumacher will race at Valencia “depends on medical investigations.”

According to Schumacher’s manager, Willi Weber, in an interview with Auto motor und sport, these medical investigations will take place sometime next week.
