Nakajima to race for Williams in Brazil

Williams have confirmed that in light of Wurz s retirement from the sport, test driver Kazuki Nakajima will race for the team in the final race of the season in Brazil.

Nakajima has tested the car over more than 7,000 km this season as well as taking part in five Friday practice sessions. As such, he was the natural choice to replace Wurz.

“I am very grateful to the team who have given me this opportunity,” Nakajima said. I hope I now know the car very well and thankfully have done some Friday driving as recently as Shanghai. This is a chance I intend to grab with both hands and repay the faith the team are showing in me with a strong performance.”

Frank Williams has stated that the race will not be a proving ground for the 2008 season as it is difficult to show a driver s talents in just one race. Instead, Nakajima should use it as a chance to develop his race experience.

“You cannot assess a driver s capability on the basis of one race, but this is an ideal opportunity to develop Kazuki s experience,” Williams remarked. “I am confident he will approach the race in a very workmanlike and focused way.”
