Mansell back as race steward as the FIA announce changes to Spa

Formula One’s governing body, the FIA, has announced that Nigel Mansell will return to the stewards’ panel for this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix.

The 1992 World Champion previously held the role at Silverstone and will be charged with giving his fellow stewards a drivers’ perspective on any incident.

Mansell is a former winner of the event, triumphing for Williams in 1986.

The FIA has also announced a number of changes to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, including modifications to the Les Combes chicane.

In a bid to stop drivers cutting the corner three road humps, in a similar guise to those used at the likes of Monza, have been introduced.

Additionally, the grass behind the apex of the corner has been removed and replaced with asphalt, with artificial turf placed behind the corner.
