Mansell 14th as host of ex-F1 drivers star in Le Mans Series Opener

Nigel Mansell’s campaign in the 2010 Le Mans Series got off to a solid start after the 1992 Formula One Champion managed a 14th place (8th in P1 class) today’s Paul Ricard 8 Hours.

Mansell, teaming up with his two sons for the full season, drove the first stint of the race and looked strong in the opening stages. However, as the race progressed the Beechdean Ginetta encountered a number of problems and suffer substantial delays in the pits.

The race was won by Rinaldo Capello and Toyota F1 driver Allan McNish in the Audi R15 TDI plus.

Meanwhile, Giancarlo Fisichella and Jean Alesi both made an impressive debut in sportscars, teaming up with Toni Vilander in the AF Corse Ferrari to take 3rd place in the GT2 class.
