Lotus to mark 500th GP in Valencia

Lotus Racing are to mark their 500th grand prix this weekend at the European Grand Prix in Valencia.

The legendary marque, founded by the great engineer Colin Chapman, left the sport in 1994 but returned to F1 this year under new ownership.

Current team principal Tony Fernandes and technical chief Mike Gascoyne have invited Chapman’s widow Hazel and his son Clive to the event.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend, and am excited about both celebrating the 500th race Lotus has competed in, and helping add another chapter to one of motorsport’s greatest stories,” Gascoyne said. “We’ve already come a long way this season, and have much further to go until we can add more glory to the Lotus legend, but I and the whole team are very proud to be in a position to help the Lotus name reach this landmark moment, and it’ll be great to celebrate that with Clive, Tony and the whole team.”
