Former Formula One world champion Niki Lauda is celebrating after his wife gave birth to twins earlier this week. Lauda s wife, Birgit, gave birth to twins Max and Mia who each weighed in at nearly 8lb, in Austria and both mother and babies are said to be doing well.
Lauda, 60, was said to be at Birgit s bedside when she gave birth. Birgit is the same age as Lauda s first son, Lukas, from this first marriage.
Lauda is not phased at having new arrivals to the household at his age. “What does a young turk know of burping and changing nappies?,†he commented.
“I can do that – and at night as well. I am fit and I am not senile yet. I am ecstatically happy!â€
Lauda and his wife met on a plane where she was an air stewardess with budget airline Flyniki. She later showed how much she loved him by donating one of her kidneys to him.
Lauda has been married three times before and is already a father to three sons.
