HRT: Senna Out, Karthikeyan In

The Hispania Racing Team have chosen not to renew Bruno Senna’s contract for the 2011 season, instead opting for Indian driver Narain Kartikeyan. Kartikeyan is no stranger to F1 having already driven for Jordan in 2005 and been a test driver for Williams.

Although HRT have yet to confirm who their second driver will be team principal Colin Kolles has said it will not be Senna. “I can definitely say that Mr Bruno Senna is not going to race for HRT,” he said in an interview with Reuters.

With most seats in Formula One now taken Senna has admitted that he is struggling to find a 2011 race seat.

“The situation is a bit difficult in F1 right now,” he admitted to Reuters. “I didn’t really have the opportunity to show what I could do last year because of various problems and that didn’t help me for this season.

“We are in talks for the few opportunities that are still open but I can’t say it’s very easy at the moment. Even Nico (Hulkenberg) is struggling to find a competitive seat.

“We may see some talents wasted because of the current situation. I hope I can take any opportunities that are available – you never know.”
