Hamilton under investigation by race stewards

Could more trouble be brewing for the McLaren team? It has been revealed that Lewis Hamilton is one of three drivers who are currently under investigation by the Brazilian race stewards after this morning s first free practice session.

Hamilton, Jenson Button and Takuma Sato are all said to have used two sets of wet weather tyres during this morning s free first free practice session. Article 25.3 of the F1 s Sporting Regulations states that, “No driver may use more than one set of wet and one set of extreme weather tyres during P1 and P2,” therefore it appears that the three drivers are in breach of the wet weather tyre rules.

The issue was brought to the attention of the Brazilian race stewards by FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer. The stewards have stated that they will likely reach a conclusion on the matter after the second free practice session has ended. As yet, it is unclear what penalties the drivers will face, if any. However, if Hamilton is penalised, it could strike a severe blow to his title hopes.
