Hamilton tops Belgian second practice

Lewis Hamilton was fastest in the second practice session for Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix.

As the rain clouds disappeared, the drivers were able to get some dry running around the famous Spa Francorchamps circuit.

Timo Glock continued to show Toyota’s promise with the second fastest time. Despite having to park his Ferrari towards the end of the session, Kimi Raikkonen was able to record the third fastest time.

It is believed that Raikkonen’s problems were partly due to  Jaime Alguersuari’s suspected engine failure. The Spaniard appeared to leave a trail of fluid on the racing line, catching out a number of drivers.

Mark Webber underlined Red Bull’s pace with the fourth fastest time of the session. The Milton Keynes-based team are hot favourites to win this weekend and expect to be near the front of the field whatever the weather.

Sebastian Vettel also featured in the second session after deciding to not run in morning practice to save his limited engines.

This afternoon’s session proved disastrous for Brawn GP with both their drivers at the bottom of the timesheets. Despite debuting a new shark-fin engine cover, Jenson Button could do no better than seventeenth. The world championship leader ended the session just ahead of his team-mate, Rubens Barrichello, who was in eighteenth position.
