FIA appoint Purnell as Technical Consultant

Tony Purnell, ex-boss of Jaguar Racing, has been appointed as a Technical Consultant to the FIA. His major role will be to help the FIA develop and introduce new technologies into Formula 1 to make the sport more relevant to today’s road cars, such as hybrid powerplants.

President of the FIA, Max Mosley, said, “I am delighted that Tony will be working with the FIA on this important new Formula 1 project. Everyone who has worked with Tony knows him to be one of the most pragmatic and technically astute minds in the sport.”

Previously, Purnell founded Pi Research which he sold to Ford and became head of Ford’s Premiere Performance Division. He then was assigned to Jaguar where he stayed until the team was taken over by Red Bull in 2004.
