It s been one of the worst kept secrets in Formula One this season with the paddock finally officially seeing Ferrari s new nose cone.
A few months ago, we reported that Ferrari were developing a new nose cone for their F2008 car. Finally, at Barcelona testing, the new nose cone was seen in public for the first time. The new nose has a hole in it that is thought to make use of the high-pressure air that accumulates between the front wing and the underneath of the nose, thus improving the car s downforce by sending better airflow to the rear wing.
It is believed that Ferrari are still testing the part and after this week s test session will decide whether to debut the new nose cone at the Spanish Grand Prix in two weeks time. So far, the omens are good with Felipe Massa finishing the first day of testing over 2.5 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
