According to some news sources, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp is in talks to purchase F1 with Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim also linked to the negotiations. Sky News has reported that even if News Corp does not buy F1, they may look into buying the broadcasting rights instead.

However Bernie Ecclestone has refuted these claims stating that the sport is not for sale and describing the story as “rubbish”.

“It’s rubbish,” Ecclestone told the Telegraph newspaper. “The sport is not for sale.”

CVC Capital Partners, a private equity firm, bought the sport for over $2.5 billion several years ago.

The BBC’s broadcasting contract ends in 2013 and it is thought that News Corp might attempt to bid for these rights when the contract expires.
