Doornbos to move to the Toro Rosso team?

Robert Doornbos has already received an offer from Red Bull to become their test driver for the 2007 season. However, he is currently negotiating a seat with Toro Rosso. In the 2006 season, he took over from Christian Klien in the last three races. A spokesman for Doornbos has stated, “Robert has received an offer to become the team’s test driver again in 2007, but we’re negotiating with Scuderia Toro Rosso at the moment to get him a race seat. In the next few weeks we’ll be having meetings in Austria with them.” A spokesman for Red Bull has said that “Red Bull Racing is involved with a possible contract at Toro Rosso. We hope to have Robert’s future clear before the end of the month.” Doornbos himself has yet to comment on the situation as he is on holiday in the Maldives.

If the contract goes ahead, Doornbos would take Scott Speed’s place and partner Liuzzi. He has partnered Liuzzi in the past – they were team mates in the F3000 championship in 2004.
