Derek Warwick will become the fourth British ex-F1 driver to advise the stewards’ panel at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The ex-Renault, Toleman, Brabham, Lotus, Arrows and BTCC man will bring his experience to bear on the field and will be the first point of counsel should there be a controversial incident.
The precise division of responsibility within the stewards’ office remains unclear, with some conspiracy theorists suggesting that Nigel Mansell had an active role in dishing out a drive-through penalty to Fernando Alonso during the British Grand Prix.
