Customer Cars – the Sepang officials’ decision

A decision has been made by race officials at the Malaysian Grand Prix over Spyker’s protest about customer cars. Race stewards have rejected the protest saying they were unable to rule on the legality of the STR2 car because the issues involved were already in arbitration, and so they also returned Spyker’s protest fee.

Colin Kolles remained upbeat saying he was just glad that they had analysed the situation thoroughly and the result had not upset him. Spyker’s protest is based on the claim that some of their rivals have used the resources of other teams to design and make their cars – something the Spyker team think is in breach of F1’s regulations. The protest is currently in the arbitration process to determine whether the cars are legal or not.
