Jenson Button is rumoured to test for Toro Rosso in Jerez next week as Honda’s exit from Formula One leaves him without a contract for 2009.
The 28-year-old Briton signed a multi-year contract extension with Honda but is now set to become a free agent as the Japanese manufacturer works to undo the contract in the wake of its withdrawl from grand prix racing.
While Button has been quick to affirm his commitment to the Brackley-based outfit, The Guardian claims that Toro Rosso Team Principal Franz Tost approached the Briton with the view to securing his services in 2009.
Tost worked with Button at Williams in 2000 and it is possible that the pair could be reunited at Toro Rosso as soon as next week when winter testing begins in Jerez.
