Briatore considers suing McLaren

Flavio Briatore has said that should they be cleared of espionage charges by the FIA World Motor Sport Council today, they will consider suing their rivals McLaren.

Renault are facing the Council today over charges that they were in possession of McLaren intellectual property brought to the company when an engineer transferred between the two teams.

Speaking to British newspaper The Daily Express, Briatore explained, “A lot of very bad things have been said about us by McLaren in the last few weeks, very damaging. We will be cleared and once the verdict is announced we will consider legal action. Our reputation has been defamed.”

It is believed that the verdict of the case will have a big impact on the driver market currently, there are many teams who have yet to announce their 2008 driver line-up, McLaren and Renault included. Much of the driver shuffle is dependent on Fernando Alonso s decision, and it is rumoured that his decision on where to go next season hinges on whether Renault are cleared of spy charges or not, and what penalties they may face.
